The Opportunity Flock is looking to add a Senior Software Engineer to our Device Software Android Apps team. No UI components here! We run on headless custom Android devices. Our Engineering team is made up of driven people who are responsible for all of the code running on a variety of devices Flock deploys in the real world. They enable the whole experience by writing applications that reliably capture, process, and upload data for years at a time without needing human interaction to keep them running. The Skillset We're looking for people with: Strong Java/Kotlin experience Possess strong debugging skills and experience with debugging custom Android hardware Experience with headless Android-embedded systems Knowledge of Android application development, methodologies, design patterns Have the ability to read through a large existing codebase and adapt quickly Experience building and shipping custom Android devices Have worked on other mobile application frameworks Have experience with architecture, design, documentation Skilled in JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Gerrit, Git/GitHub Nice to Haves: Experience developing camera and image-processing applications Experience with managing dashboards monitoring device health Feeling uneasy that you haven’t ticked every box? The First 30 Days Learn about the flock applications that keep the devices up-to-date and reporting the health of the device and its peripherals Create internal dashboards to monitor the health of the applications The First 60 Days Triage issues coming from the field related to the health of the devices in the field 90 Days & Beyond Triage issues coming from the field related to the health of the devices in the field Re-architecture of the applications like the device application updater to make it common across all the android versions Design and implement mechanisms to improve power utilization on Flock devices The Interview Process We want our interview process to be a true reflection of our culture: transparent and collaborative. You should expect the interview will cover the hard skills required to do the job, an architectural discussion, and an exploration of your past accomplishments and experiences. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. You will meet with several teammates and cross-functional partners. Engineers should expect a technical assessment through coding interviews or architecture discussions. Your recruiter will provide more details to ensure you are fully prepared for your big day. The Executive Review: A chance to meet a leader within the Device Software team. They will be looking to get to know you better, understand your motivations, and understand your technical background. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.
