About the Role

As a Visual Arts Teacher , you will play a pivotal role in shaping the creative minds of our students. We are looking for passionate educators who are committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration with their grade-level and school teams. Your expertise will guide students through basic, intermediate, and advanced art classes, helping them build impressive portfolios while exploring art history and critical thinking skills.

Your Responsibilities

• Implement engaging curricula and activities that meet academic standards, focusing on art and art history.
• Teach essential skills in drawing, painting, lettering, and art history.
• Demonstrate techniques in various art activities, applying design elements and modern art principles.
• Design and implement assessments to measure student progress.
• Utilize assessment data to refine curriculum and enhance instructional practices.
• Collaborate on curriculum development and participate in school-wide functions.
• Maintain a positive classroom environment with consistent rewards and consequences for behavior.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Engage in an annual three-week staff orientation and training.

What We’re Looking For

• A passion for improving the minds and lives of students both in and out of the classroom.
• A proven track record of high achievement in the classroom.
• Mastery and enthusiasm for academic subjects.
• Self-motivated and a team player.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public or charter school setting preferred.
• By the start of employment, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and meet GPA requirements specific to their state.
• Valid State Certification is helpful but not required. Alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is essential.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $57,000 to $89,000 , determined by factors such as relevant teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $57,000.
