Title: Sr. Structural Forensic Engineer

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL (Hybrid)

Duration: Permanent Direct Hire

The client seeks a dynamic and experienced Engineer to help guide and grow our Forensic Engineering Department. Responsibilities:

  • Perform visual inspections of buildings and various other structures.
  • Prepare written reports according to inspection and code guidelines.
  • Review drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and other work for accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Estimate quantities and costs of materials, equipment, or labor.
  • Attend meetings regarding assigned projects and respond to questions and inquiries from various individuals, groups, or companies.
  • Adhere to office standards, policies, and project schedules.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and clients in forensic investigations and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineering license (PE) preferred; highly preferred to qualify for the upper end of the salary range.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • 8 years of post-degree work experience in construction, design, inspection, or estimating.
  • Experience working onsite and conforming to drawings, specifications, and plans.

Software Proficiency:

  • Expertise in Revit and AutoCAD for design and drafting.
  • Advanced structural analysis and design software knowledge: ETABS, RAM Structural System, and SAP2000 (or similar tools).

Structural Expertise:

  • Specialization in building design (no bridges or infrastructure).
  • Experience with diverse project types, including: Educational facilities (e.g., schools, universities).
  • High-rise buildings.
  • Multimillion-dollar residential developments.
  • Commercial structures (e.g., car dealerships, retail centers).

Design Experience:

  • Proven ability to design reinforced concrete slabs (flat plates, two-way slabs, etc.) and other structural systems (e.g., steel frames, masonry).
  • Familiarity with foundation design (e.g., shallow and deep foundations) is a plus.

Building Codes & Standards:

  • Working knowledge of relevant codes (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360).
  • Understanding of local seismic, wind, and environmental load requirements.

Project Management:

  • Ability to oversee projects from concept through construction, including coordination with architects, contractors, and clients.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal skills for preparing reports, presenting findings (especially for forensic roles), and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Field Experience:

  • Exposure to site inspections, condition assessments, or construction administration is a plus, particularly for forensic candidates.
  • Sustainability: Familiarity with green building standards (e.g., LEED) or energy-efficient design practices is advantageous but not required.
