The Dog Patch is seeking to hire an Experienced Pet Care Counselor to join our team!

Would you love to work with dogs in a busy and fun dog daycare? The Dog Patch is a medium sized doggie daycare, lodging and grooming boutique located in Brandon, serving Brandon, Riverview and South Shore areas. We are seeking to hire great candidates wanting to make a career in the pet care industry. We are seeking both full & part-time candidates.

*If you do not have experience working in a controlled dog daycare environment, we do offer a training program, please apply completely if you are interested.

General Summary of Job

The Pet Care Counselor is responsible for the supervision, control and management of daycare dogs and ensuring the safety of the playgroup. The counselor may also be assigned care of other animals lodging at the facility. Additionally, the counselor is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the playrooms as well as other areas of the facility as assigned/needed. The Pet Care Counselor works under the supervision of the Pet Care Lead and/or Facility management.

Primary Duties for Dog Management:

a. Interact with dogs in playgroups using appropriate toys and tools to ensure safe levels of play and minimizing stress levels of all dogs in playgroup. Maintain visual observation of dogs at all times and spread attention and play among all dogs in playgroup.

b. Control level of play by following dog management and control procedures and instructions provided by Lead/Supervisor.

c. Must take and pass online safety classes on dog body language and behavior as part of training program.

d. Use proper dog handling techniques including use of kennel leads to transfer dogs.

e. Use proper dog introduction procedures.

f. Use appropriate praise and dog redirection methods.

g. Ensure you know all dogs in playgroup and can properly identify them. If not, request assistance from Lead. Use paper id collars to identify dogs that are similar in appearance.

h. Watch all new dogs carefully and immediately consult with Shift Lead if you have concerns.

i. Review special needs list and manage dogs as instructed. Complete reports for all dogs in playgroup.

j. Ensure staff that relieve you for break or shift change know all dogs in group, the special needs dog status and any unusual behaviors or concerns you have been managing during your shift. If the next shift staff is not available, update the Coordinator before leaving.

k. Plan how dogs will be put in enclosures for meals in accordance to procedure. Consult Shift Lead if you have concerns on being able to put all dogs away properly in your playroom.

Minimum Experience, Skills, Certification or Academic Background Required:

1. High school graduate or GED preferred

2. Good oral communication skills

3. Previous work experience demonstrating dependability

4. Previous experience providing animal care (personal or job related)

5. Self-motivated, independent worker

6. Proven ability to follow instructions and learn new things

7. Ability to work in a team environment

8. Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills

9. Great attitude!

10. MUST LOVE DOGS – we will have a lot of them!

11. Attention to detail Candidates must be capable of performing physically demanding work, staying on your feet for extended periods, lifting up to 40 lbs, and working independently as well as with a team. Previous animal handling experience preferred but not required.

Open availability required including nights, weekends, and holidays. Full-time and Part-time positions are available. Pay Rate: Hourly Schedule: 4 & 8/10-hour shifts available Monday – Friday Days, Nights and/or Weekends & Holidays Work authorization: United States (required) Language: English (required), bi-lingual is beneficial.

Shifts:

Generalist - Cleaning:

M-Sa 3/3:30 pm to 7:30 pm

(may consider 4/4:30 pm start shift)

Sun as needed

 

Generalist - working with dogs:

M-Sa 7/7:30 (8 am) – 4/5 pm

Sun as needed

Pet Care Counselor (experienced):

M-Sa 6/6:30 am – 1:30 or 4:30/5 pm

M-Sa 1:30 pm – 7:30 pm (close)

Sun 6/6:30 am – 1:30/2 pm & 2/3 pm - 7:30 pm (close)

Pet Care Counselor – Closer (experienced):

M-Sa 4/4:30 – 7:30 pm (close)

There may be condensed or abbreviated shifts depending on occupancy and needs of our guests.

Note: flexibility is due to occupancy and understanding during any holiday we are very busy and time off is granted based on employment seniority. No employee will receive ALL prime holidays off.
